TOO expensive!

So as everyone knows the last 6 months or so have been a little rough. But I hope its coming to an end. Brandon's swine flu..phnemonia..mono..and cold are gone. I just fought of a cold and now Gavin is fighting it. So I'm hoping in a few more days.. nodda! But my whole frustration comes from all are crazy expensive medical bills! bills bills! How do people survive down here. I was talking to my family about it and my sister said to blog about it! I was like "such a good idea" CuZ i want to know how everyone else handles it. For Brandon being in the hospital twice this year already and me being prego.. its a constant thing to see a bill in the mail for one or the other. How sad is it though that people are struggling so hard to survive just with food, clothing, and mortgage payments.. that they have to stress even more for medical bills. Me and Brandon have even considered having this baby up in Canada because there system is so much better and i could have the baby up there for.... FREE! ya i know. What is wrong down here. Someone needs to figure something out. But anyway we can't Cuz our little baby would need a passport to come back home and that takes about a month. So it's so sad CuZ we have always wanted a big family. But with $4500 or more spent on every delivery, how could we afford 5 kids.. i don't think we could. somehow I'm hoping things will change and quickly. Brandon does have a pretty goo job and we are so blessed. I just can't imagine people who are in school or not making very much and have to support family. Well besides all that frustration i am feeling like I'm getting my energy back this week and we got to see an ultrasound of our 2ND baby! The last two times i have been in .. my OB can't hear the heartbeat.. so we have had a few scares but after two ultrasounds all is fine! :) I'm just enjoying my time with Gavin before another little one gets here!

I totally feel your frustration. We still have piles of medical bills from when Darci was born. She was expensive, from being in the NICU. And the insurance sucks, and its all only getting worse. And to top that all off, the insurance from her birth has taken back all their payments, stating that I wasn't current on my coverage. I payed for the coverage to my work and they never submitted the payment to the insurance. And now we are in a battle with the insurance company to get them to understand that I payed and its not my fault. So, If they don't pay it all back, we are totally screwed! There is NO way we can pay those bills without the insurance.

You don't know me, I am a friend of Capri's. My husband is from Canada, Calgary actually. I think Capri mentioned you were from there? Any way! Small world! We had some serious medical bills after both our girls were born, even with health insurance. One thing you should look into, is talking with the hospital about your medical bills. Sometimes they will forgive/clear your debt completely if you are having a difficult time paying and or don't make enough income to pay them. Canada does make health care more affordable, but unfortunately the care itself is not so good. I've experienced how difficult it is to try and see a doctor or a dentist. Or even get an MRI done. You wait, and wait and WAIT! And the emergency room in Canada, you might as well pitch a tent and move in. Both have pros and cons. I'm not for universal health care but I am for a plan to make it more affordable to every family.

hey kristy!
i've been there. . . ugh. having norah and her being in the nicu down here ended up being around $25,000. That's right, twenty-five thousand! yikes. that was before insurance, and luckily i was a student, so that helped, but it was still bad. we have also considered the canadian baby thing, but like you said, it just takes too long. besides, i wouldn't want to have to move in with someone else to have my tiny baby, and i gave up my alberta health care by moving down here and being a permanent resident of the usa.
anyway, you mentioned poor people who can't pay their bills, well. . . they just use medicaid. it's sad that they get everything for free, and most people completely abuse the system, but that's what they do. i agree with the above comment though, you can just talk to your hospital, and they can reduce/wipe away some of the bills. it NEVER hurts to ask, that helped a lot after we had norah. otherwise, we would still be paying!
wow. that was long. . .
